UPN Pairs 'Player' with 'Amish' Executives at UPN have spoken at length this summer about how the network's 2004-05 schedule will flow more logically from night to night.Apparently that flow won't start until fall, because UPN is moving its glitzy new dating show "The Player" to Wednesday nights, where it will follow "Amish in the City." The move takes effect Wednesday, Aug. 11.The network announced the change Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 3), a few hours before "The Player" made its debut. So either UPN execs just changed their mind about where the show should go, or they had a vision of meager ratings for the premiere, in which a Miami model named Dawn meets 13 self-described "players" who are trying to win her heart, or perhaps some other part of her anatomy.Vision or no, ratings were pretty weak for "The Player": The debut scored only 2.4 million viewers, failing to build on the sitcom reruns that preceded it."Amish in the City," meanwhile, drew 5.4 million viewers in its premiere last week. Should its strong ratings continue, it could serve as a better launching pad for "The Player," regardless of how different in tone the two shows are.Repeats of the previous week's "Player" will move into the 9 p.m. Tuesday spot starting next week.
